7 Free Antivirus Software For Windows 7
Posted August 9, 2009 – 9:28 am in: Windows 7Windows operating systems have been a favorite target of viruses. There are many free and paid antivirus and internet security suites are available. Although there are many antivirus software available to download for free, all antivirus software can’t be trusted.
In no particular order, below is the list of finest free antivirus solutions for Windows 7 with a small introduction. Of the 7 antivirus solutions, only AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials come with “Windows 7 supported” tag. But all the solutions listed here should work fine on Windows 7.
1. Avast Antivirus: One of the famous free antivirus solutions for Windows. Avast comes with decent UI and features.
2. Avira Antivir Personal: My favorite free antivirus solution! Generally speaking, Avira is the best free antivirus software that I have used ever. The detection rate is quite good and also the overall performance.
3. AVG Antivirus: AVG sports the best UI in the free antivirus category. In fact, the UI is much better than many paid antivirus solutions.
4. Bit-defender Antivirus: This is the stripped-down version of the famous Bit-defender paid antivirus. Although the UI and detection is quite good, most of the Windows users chose either Avira, Avast or AVG for some reasons.
5. PC Tools antivirus: PC Tools is pretty famous for its A-squared antimalware. Although I haven’t tested or used PC Tools antivirus for long time, I can safely say it’s quite good.
6. Comodo: Another good antivirus solution in free antivirus software category.
7. Microsoft Security Essentials: This all new antivirus solution from Microsoft has been rated as one of the best of the antivirus solutions in a recent survey. Although the program is still in Beat stage, many Windows users are happy with it.

I have been using PC Tools Spyware Doctor w/Antivirus with Windows 7 for a few months now and it works perfectly.
I highly recommend it. It’s very effective and isn’t a big CPU hog.
It works well on all versions of Windows. At $29, it’s a great value, as I have it running on three different computers.
Avast is the best option you can pick.
I’ve been using Avast Antivirus for 5 years now combined with Spybot Search & Destroy and now issues what so ever.
Features I always look in Antivirus software:
1) Boot time scan
2) Live virus and antispyware monitor
3) Automatic Updates
4) a plus if it has Anti-rootkit built-in
Avast has all that. Also, it fully support 64-bit windows environment so you don’t have to worry about 32-bit emulation under a 64-bit OS which sometimes can cause issues. Lastly, you can not bit the fact that is free for home users.
very power

Does “VirtualBox 4.0 Beta Available For Download” work good with Windows 7?
murali – the weakness about downloading Mcfee is that it makes you take of Microsoft Security Essentials anti virus program off your computer. I am using Avast because it lets me keep my other security anti virus programs!!!!!
I tried using “Comodo” but my internet provider told me to remove it be cause it interfered with its network. So i had to removed Comodo!!!!
