Switching between applications in Windows Vista and Windows 7 has never been a problem. One can use the good old Alt + Tab hotkey or the Windows + Tab (Flip 3D) to quickly switch between running programs. Opening a program pinned to taskbar is also possible with Windows and numeric keys.

Many of us pin our favourite apps to the taskbar so we can easily launch them without having to the open the Start menu. As mentioned earlier, one can launch pinned programs with the help of Windows + number shortcut. But when tens of programs running on the taskbar, it may take a moment to figure out what the number of the program is.

7 Taskbar Numberer is  a small program from the maker of popular and highly useful 7 Taskbar Tweaker. 7 Taskbar Numberer sequentially assigns numbers to all program icons on the taskbar, including both running and pinned programs. This helps you quickly launch pinned applications and launch between running apps.

7 Taskbar Numberer has been designed for uses who use speech recognition software to launch and switch between application. So, the program comes in handy for users who are using speech recognition software and also for users who want to quickly access program running in system tray.

Though this program assigns numbers to system tray icons as well, you can’t actually launch tray icons with Windows + Number shortcut. However, while using speech recognition, you can use “Tray Number” command to launch programs in the system tray.

7 Taskbar Numberer is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7. Note that it doesn’t work on Windows 8. You might also like to check our list of 7 free tools to tweak and customize Windows 7 taskbar.
