BCDEdit Reference Guide For Windows Vista And Windows 7
Posted December 22, 2010 – 1:58 pm in: E-booksIn Windows Vista, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2, and Windows 7 operating systems, the boot configuration data (BCD) store contains the boot configuration parameters and controls the computer’s boot environment. BCDEdit is a command-line tool that can be used to add, delete, edit, and modify data in a BCD store.
For those Windows Vista and Windows 7 users who are not familiar with BCD commands, here is a nice guide from Microsoft. This guide is a complete reference for the Windows BCDEdit commands, identifiers, formats, and data types.
BCD stores can contain several types of boot entries, including Boot Manager, Windows boot loader, Ntldr (boot loader for Windows earlier than Vista), and the Resume application to resume Windows from hibernation.
Download and go through the document to master Boot Configuration Data. Please note that this guide was originally released for Windows Vista, but all these commands, and identifiers work in Windows 7 as well.
