I have used BurnAware Free for years and years – it’s easy and really very reliable. Two minuses: this free version will not plain old copy a disc, a data disc I mean. You have manually copy the disc’s contents, then burn your on-PC files onto the new blank. The second minus is that readers should expect frequent new versions, mildly annoyingly frequent. But at least the new version installs merely overwrite the preexisting one – no big deal.

Overall I like this freeware the best, having used paid suites from both Roxio and Nero in the past. Nero, in my opinion, is especially evil malware. It takes over your system. Parts of it – always-on-and-accessing-the-web parts – are almost impossible to shut off and/or get rid of, even following uninstall. It’s been more than three years, and last week I found one more straggling Nero element (now shredded!). NEVER AGAIN.
