How To Fix Windows Vista Black Screen On Startup

If you are a Windows Vista user and facing black screen problem during startup, here is an hotfix to fix the issue.

When you start a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, sometimes it stops responding at a black screen early in the startup process. According to Microsoft support page, the issue occurs because of a deadlock between a thread in Windows NT File System driver (Ntfs.sys) and a thread in the Autochk.exe program.

How to fix Vista black screen at startup:

1. Download the hotfix from Microsoft.

2. Install the hotfix and then reboot your PC.

How To Fix Service Pack Installation Cannot Continue Error While Installing Vista SP2

Last evening, we reported about the public availability of Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

Many users who have been using Vlited Windows Vista (Customized Vista) have been facing "Service Pack Installation Cannot Continue, one or more system components that the service pack requires are missing" error while installing the SP2. This problem occurs because system components that are required to install Windows Vista SP2 are not present on your computer.

If you too are in the same condition, you need to follow the below mentioned workaround to install SP2 on Vlited Vista.

To solve this problem, we need to do in-place upgrade, which requires your original Windows Vista DVD.

Warning: Before you perform an in-place upgrade, you should be prepared for a worst case scenario that results in your existing data on your computer being deleted. Backing up your system is recommended.

1. Insert the Vista DVD and wait for few seconds to load the autorun. If the autorun program does not open the Install Windows screen, browse to the root folder of the DVD and double click setup.exe.

2. When the "Install now" screen appears, click Install now. When you receive the Get important updates for installation message, do not click Go Online.

3. Click Upgrade when the “which type of installation do you want” screen appears.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the setup process.

Note: Once the upgrade process is finished, you have to activate your copy of Windows Vista.

5. You can then download and install Windows Vista SP2 on your machine (You must have a genuine copy of Windows Vista with SP1 installed on the computer prior to installing SP2).

Why does Vista take so much of your hard disk space when you install it? Don’t know? Even I don’t know the exact answer except the answer it has lots of features and utilities. In fact, there are lots more in Vista than what we know. One such feature is Vista’s in-built feature named Heath Report.

Vista’s Health Report tool generates a report detailing the status of local hardware resources, system response times, and processes on the local computer along with system information and configuration data. This report even includes suggestions for ways to maximize performance and streamline system operation.

This diagnostics tool analyzes and collects the data for 60 seconds and then generates a detailed report. The report is very easy to understand and know even for a new user as it generates the report for different categories like Startup, Services, security etc.

So you have read all the information about this diagnostics tool, but how to access it? Head to Control Panel, click on System and Maintenance, click Performance Information and Tools, and finally open Advanced Tools from the left pane.

Under Advanced Tools window, open the extreme last option (tool) labeled “Generate a system health report”. Once you open the tool, this tool will check your system for a minute and collect data before generating the report.
