Ribbon Explorer is one of the hundreds of new features introduced in Windows 8. The Ribbon Explorer makes it easy to access explorer functions and options. The Ribbon is minimized by default and can be accessed by clicking the down arrow icon in the upper right corner of the explorer window.

Ribbon Icons Customizer is a tiny tool that lets you easily change the default icons of Ribbon Explorer. With the help of this tool one can replace default icons of Ribbon with custom ones.

Change Windows 8 Ribbon Icons

Ribbon Icons Customizer is able to change icons of copy, paste, cut, paste shortcut, move to, copy to, delete, recycle bin, recycle , permanently delete, zip, burn to disc, print, navigation pane, preview pane, invert selection, email, rename and new folder command icons present under Home, Share and View tabs.

One can also use this tool to change Explorer File menu icons such as open new window, open new process, open Command Prompt, and open Windows PowerShell.

Options are also available to restore individual icons. That is, if you have changed the default icon of Copy function, you can restore it to the original without affecting other icons.

Before running the tool, you first need to run the Resources.reg fix included in the zip file. The registry fix takes ownership of some registry files, nothing more that it! Once done,  launch Ribbon Icons Customizer as administrator. Please note that running the tool as a normal user won’t help you change ribbon icons. Once launched, click on the desired button that you want to change and then browse to the icon file that you wish to use. Please note that the icon file must be in .ico format.

Select the icon that you wish to use and then click Open button to change the default ribbon icon with the new one. Once the icon is changed, you will see Successfully Changed message. We suggest you use Windows Phone style icons to enhance the look of the Ribbon.

It’s always a good idea to create a system restore point before changing default ones, in case anything goes wrong. Ribbon Icons Customizer supports both x86 and x64 versions of Windows 8.

And please don’t mistake this tool with icon pack installers. This tool lets you change only icons of the Ribbon Explorer with your desired icons.
