Connectify Now Supports Windows 8

The famous wireless hotspot software Connectify has just been updated to v3.5 and it now fully supports Microsoft’s latest Windows 8 operating system as well. The newest version of the program also fixes the annoying “Hosted network unavailable” error.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Connectify before, it’s a free software (Pro version is also available) to turn your Windows 7 and Windows 8 laptops into virtual Wi-Fi hotspots with a few clicks without the help of additional hardware. For instance, if you have multiple Wi-Fi supported devices at home, you can install this software on your laptop so that you can share the Internet connection with your other devices.

Connectify for Windows 8

The free version of Connectify lets you create your own software access point (Wi-Fi hotspot) and share Internet from other Wi-Fi Networks by re-broadcasting the Wi-Fi network.

Even though advanced features such as drag-and-drop file transfer to quickly transfer files with devices connected to the hotspot, service discovery to scan all devices connected to the hotspot for available shared drives and folders, and share Wi-Fi from 3G/4G cards are available in the free version, these features have limited functionality. You need to upgrade to the Pro version of the software to unlock the full functionality of these features.

How to setup Connectify:

Step 1: Download, install the software, reboot your PC and then launch the software.

Step 2: Enter a name for your hotspot, select the Internet connection you want to share and finally click Start Hotspot button to starting sharing the Internet connection through Wi-Fi. That’s it!

You can view Connectify peers and devices connected to your Hotspot by switching to Clients tab. In addition to Windows 8, Connectify also supports Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7, both x86 and x64 systems.
