If you own a Windows 8 tablet chances are you also use your tablet to occasionally take pictures and record videos. Along with many other Modern UI style apps, Windows 8 also ships with a Camera app to quickly take pictures and record videos.

The native Camera is great when you want to snap a quick picture or record videos. The only catch is that it’s a basic app and doesn’t include advanced options. It lacks options to configure brightness, contrast, picture format, and video file format. If you are looking for a better alternative to the native Camera app, YouCam is the ideal app for you.

YouCam from CyberLink is a free camera app for Windows 8. It lets you record smooth HD videos and enhance them with TrueTheater (TM feature). You can configure noise reduction, brightness, contrast, exposure, video stabilization, focus, flip horizontal, auto face tracking, and more.

One can use the Mirror option to use the app as a mirror. You can access and enable this feature by right-clicking on the app and then clicking Mirror.

By default, YouCam saves all recordings in .MP4 format. You can change this under YouCam settings. This app also lets you reduce the video file size by reducing the quality. You can select between best, better, and best. You can configure snapshot format, burst snapshot speed, capture resolution, and timestamp settings under YouCam options. Right-click on YouCam and then click Options to change recording, snapshot, and camera settings.

Upon launching the app for the first time, you will see “Can YouCam use your webcam and microphone?” message. Click Allow button to start using the app.

Open the download link provided at the end of this article in your Internet Explorer browser and then click View in Windows Store button to open the app in Store app. Simply click Install button to begin downloading and installing the app. CyberLink YouCam is compatible with x86, x64, and ARM based processors.
