Update: This tool works only on Windows 8 Developer Preview and doesn’t work on the final version.
The recently released Windows 8 Developer Preview build introduces the Metro style user interface to the desktop. The Metro style user interface shows the important information on the Start screen with the help of live tiles. The new user interface is built for touch but works fine with keyboard and mouse too.
But it seems some Windows 8 users are having issues with the new Metro interface. If you are one of those who are trying to get rid of the new Metro, here is a small application that helps you disable the Metro features such as Ribbon Explorer, Start Screen and Lock Screen. And, if you are trying to get back the good old Start menu, read our how to enable Start menu in Windows 8.
Metro Controller is a tiny tool ,developed by our friend hb860, to disable the Windows 8 Metro UI with a mouse click. The tool lets you disable the Windows Explorer Ribbon, Metro Start screen, and lock screen.
How to use Metro Controller:
Step 1: Download the Metro Controller zip file from here. Extract the zip to get MetroController.exe file with other necessary files required to disable the Metro.
Step 2: Run MetroController.exe file, click Disable all new features button to disable Start screen, Ribbon Explorer and Lock screen. If you would like to disable only Start screen and lock leaving the Ribbon Explorer, click on the second option Disable only Metro features button.Tags:
