Now that Microsoft has removed Windows DVD Maker from the latest iteration of Windows, users need to install third-party programs to burn data CD, DVD or Blu-ray discs. While a lot of burning software available for Windows, limited number of quality burning programs support Windows 8.
Computer users who are looking for a free, quality burning software should check out Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 Free. Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 Free is fully compatible with Windows 8 and includes all features that you would expect from a good burning software.
The user interface is very straight-forward and unlike other burning programs, doesn’t take your time.
Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 Free lets you burn files and folders, update an existing disc by adding or removing files and folders, backup or restore files and folders, create audio CDs, create MP3 discs, create WMA discs, rip audio CDs, burn or rip music, burn video DVD from a folder that contains the DVD video files, create a video CD (VCD), create super VCD (SVCD), copy movie files to a CD/DVD/Blu-ray discs, copy CD/DVD/Blu-ray discs to your hard drive, create or burn disc images, create disc images from files and folders, and erase CD-RW or DVD-RW discs.
The backup functionality in the program is pretty good. You can choose the backup location as DVD or Blu-ray disc, hard disk or USB disk. You are allowed to compress files to make archive smaller and encrypt the backup with a password.
Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 Free is fully compatible with Windows 8 RTM and is now listed in Windows 8 Store as well.
Note that the setup attempts installing MyAshampoo Toolbar and setting MyAshampoo web search as your homepage, and MyAshampoo web search as my default search. To avoid installing the toolbar and changing your browser settings, select custom installation and deselect those options.
