AVG Technologies recently released its 2013 lineup of PC security products and are now available for download. In addition to other AVG Internet Security and AVG PC TuneUp utility, AVG has also updated its popular AVG Antivirus Free software and it now fully supports Windows 8 as well.
The highlight of AVG Antivirus Free 2013 is its new metro-inspired user interface. The new user interface is optimized for touch so you can use it on a Windows 8 tablet or PC with touch-screen without a problem. The user interface is impressive and lets you easily access all features and options.
Even though it’s a free software, it ships with a decent set of features that you would expect from a good security program. Real-time protection, on demand scan, link scanner surf guard, email protection, do not track, identity protection, Wi-Fi guard, smart scanner, AVG turbo scan, and social networking protection are some of the smart features present in AVG AntiVirus Free 2013.
The download size of the web setup is ~4 MB (full setup is ~41 MB). Run the web setup and then follow on-screen instructions to download and install the right version of AVG Free AntiVirus on your PC. Please note that the setup tries to install AVG Security Toolbar to protect your computer and also sets AVG Secure Search as your default search engine. If you don’t want to install the Toolbar and browser settings, select Custom Install and then deselect those options.
Users who believe that the native Windows Defender (includes almost all features of Microsoft Security Essentials) isn’t good enough or users who love AVG Free AntiVirus can download this version from the download link provided at the end of this article.
Please note that AVG Antivirus Free 2013 offers only basic protection to your PC. It can detect and stop viruses, threats, and malware but if you are looking for a solid protection you need to buy the AVG Internet Security 2013 or any other good security software such Kaspersky Internet Security 2013, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2013, or Norton Internet Security.
