Download Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0 Beta Now
Posted November 30, 2011 – 9:45 am in: FreewareMicrosoft has made available for download the newest beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials and is now available at Microsoft Connect site. Earlier this month, Microsoft had invited select users via email for the beta testing. Interested users can now use the Windows Live ID to avail the beta copy (see details at the end of this article) from Microsoft Connect.
The newest beta comes with simplified UI, improved protection engine, enhanced protection, and performance improvements.
Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0 beta includes following improvements:
We are not sure why Microsoft skipped version 3 as this beta is 4.0.1111.0. To download Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0 Beta, visit this Microsoft Connect page, login with Windows Live ID, and finally join the Beta program. MSE 4.0 Beta officially supports only Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP1 or SP2, Windows 7 SP1 operating systems.
Users who want to install MSE 4.0 Beta on Windows 8 Developer Preview may need to run the installer in compatibility mode. To do this, right-click on the setup file, select Properties, switch to Compatibility tab and enable Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 7 option.
Please note that separate installers are available for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. Be sure to download the right version. The download size of 32-bit version is 8.87 MB and 64-bit is 11.04 MB.
