Your files and software will not be deleted during the upgrade process. But we suggest you backup all critical data as precaution is better than cure.

If you are running Vista and 7 in dual-boot you can safely use NIS. And if you are running Windows 7 in VPC or VirtualBox also you can use NIS without any problems.
