With the release of Windows 8, enthusiasts have begun working on new utilities to tweak and customize Windows 8. Over the last few days, developers released a bunch of quality software to change the default look and feel of newest Windows version.
Eight Drive Icon Changer is a new utility to customize your Windows 8. As the name implies, Drive Icon Changer lets you easily change the default drive icons with a few mouse click. The utility also lets show the hidden empty drives.
Using this little software is extremely easy. Download and double-click on the software to launch the program. Upon launching the program, you will get a small dialog with Show hidden, Load, Restore, and Change buttons. Select the drive you wish to change the icon and then click Load button to load custom icons.
The best thing about this tool is that you don’t need to search your computer or the Internet for new icons. It can load icons in powercpl.dll, shell32.dll, user32.dll, xpsrchvw.exe, and explorer.exe files and use of one of them. If you want to set a custom icon that you have downloaded from the Internet (see beautiful drive icons), click on the tiny browse icon to browse to the file. Please note that the file should be in .ico format. Highlight the icon that you wish to use and click open button to set the icon as new drive icon.
Eight Drive Icon Changer is a portable utility, meaning that it can be launched without the installation. It supports both x86 and x64 versions of Windows 8. We tested it on our Windows 8 x64 machine and were able to change the default set of drive icons without any issues.
