How To Easily Change Default Icon Font In Windows 7

As you may know, Windows 7 comes with several new fonts. Previously we had covered a detailed guide on Windows 7 fonts. The default font in Windows 7 has been set to Segoe UI.

You might want to change the font being used for the desktop icon and other texts in Windows 7 folders and drives. Changing a font & style in Windows 7 is simple if you follow the steps given below.

1. Right-click on Desktop and select Personalize.

2. Click on Window Color.

3. On Windows Color page, click Advanced appearance and settings to see Window Color and Appearance.

4. Here you can change the font and font style (bold or italic). To change the text font, select Icon from the Item drop down list and then change the Font to your desired one from the default Segoe UI.

You can also change the size of texts under Windows Color and Appearance. 

 

5.  Click Apply button to save the changes.

    But you can’t change the color of the font!! If you are using a light colored background the white font is hard to read. I think you can add a drop shadow, but you really need to be able to change the color.

    I did change the font to a bold version and that helped but how do you change the font color?

    Open the Window Color and Appearance dialog and set the Desktop color 1 to a light color such as white. This will force the icon text color to black.

    Oh Thank you, thank you.You are a life saver.I use Bengali as my default language and the default ‘Virinda’ font is so small and disgusting. Now I can write desktop icon names in my language and read them without changing the DPI size.Thanks again.
