How To Get The New Windows 8 Start Button In Windows 7
Posted August 24, 2011 – 6:30 pm in: Windows 7 GuidesNow that Microsoft has revealed the new Metro Start button in the upcoming Windows 8 OS, it’s time to get down and apply the new Start button in Windows 7 as well. As we have discussed earlier today, the new Metro style Start button is completely different from the the current Windows 7 Start orb.
To get the new Windows 8 Metro Start button in Windows 7, you first need to download Windows 8 Metro style start button from the web. A deviantart member, dAKirby309, has created the metro Start button for large and small Windows 7 taskbar. To apply the new Start button, you can use the popular Start Orb Changer utility.
If you are new to customizing Windows 7, simply follow the step-by-step procedure given below to download and apply the new Windows 8 Metro Start button in Windows 7.
Step 1: Visit Windows 8 Metro Start button page and download the zip pack. Extract the downloaded zip file to get Metro start button image file.
Step 2: Next step is to download Windows 7 Start Orb Changer utility. Download it from here. Extract Windows 7 Start Orb Changer zip file to get Start Orb Changer executable file.
Step 3: Run Windows Start Orb Changer utility. Click on Change button and browse to the Windows 8 Metro Start button image file that you have downloaded in step 1. Select and open Windows 8 Beta Start Orb.bmp image file to automatically replace the old Start orb with new button. Once done, you will see “The Start orb has been changed successfully” message.
Use the Restore button in Start Orb Changer tool to revert to the old Start orb. Please note that Start Orb Changer works great on both x86 and x64 versions of Windows 7. It’s always a good idea to create a manual system restore point before replacing Windows system files with custom files.

Nice observation. But the windows 8 start orb shown in the leaked picture is much more professional and nice looking than the replacement for windows 7 start orb.
Maybe the some gradient can be applied to the start orb and also remove/reduce the too obvious back shadow.
