Posted March 2, 2009 – 2:40 pm in: Vista TweaksMany a times we like to customize our desktop icon and icon name. Although modifying the recycle bin icon is as simple as modifying Computer icon, renaming the Recycle Bin is not an easy task in Vista.
Renaming the recycle bin icon needs editing Windows Registry. If you want to play safe, you can download and use a freeware named Rename Recycle Bin. You can also rename through Windows Registry. It’s a simple task, if you follow the below procedure.
1. Type in regedit in Vista start menu and hit enter to launch Windows Registry Editor. Alternatively, you can type regedit in Run dialog box as well.
2. Click Continue/Yes button for the User Account Prompt.
3. Next, navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ CLSID \ {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
4. On the right-side pane, double-click on the key named “Default” to get a small dialog box.
5. In the newly opened “Edit String” dialog box, enter the new name.
6. Close Windows Registry Editor.
7. Refresh the desktop to see the change.
