How To Use Problem Steps Recorder In Windows 7
Posted September 28, 2009 – 10:11 pm in: Windows 7 GuidesAlong with many other new features Windows 7 incorporated a new unique feature named Problem Steps Recorder. Problem Steps Recorder is very useful if you want to show the steps that need to be followed to accomplish one or more tasks to someone else.
In simple words, you can use Problem Steps Recorder to automatically capture the steps you take on a computer, including a text description of where you clicked and a picture of the screen during each click.
Another advantage of PSR is that you can view the recorded steps as a slide show as well. If you like to teach some features of Windows 7 to your family or friend, then this is the perfect tool for you.
How to use Problem Steps Recorder in Windows 7:
1. You can launch Problem Steps Recorder by typing psr in Start menu and then hitting enter.
2. Once the Problem Steps Recorder is launched, click on Start Record button to begin recording your steps. You can record any number of steps using PSR.
3. Once you finish all your tasks, just hit the Stop Record button to close recording process and save the file in your desired location.
4. The PSR saves records in a ZIP file. You can use the default file extraction feature or any other tools such as 7-Zip or WinRAR to unzip the file.
5. Double-click on the MHT extension file to view all recorded steps in your browser or as a slide show.
Note that the Problem Steps Recorder will not record the text that you type while recording. In order to add text to your screenshots, use add text comment feature available in PSR tool.
To preset the output location of the recorded file, open Settings in PSR and browse to the desired location. You can also enable/disable screen capture and number of recent screen captures to store using settings.

Excellent tool that I didn’t know existed. I work on a (3) monitor setup, and it only seems to record the entire desktop…anyone know of a way to force it to record a single window?
@MikeMogo
There are no settings till now in PSR to capture a single window only.
