Keep Your PC Up-to-date With SUMo (Software Update Monitor)
Posted January 18, 2009 – 5:40 am in: Freeware, SoftwaresHere is another free tool to keep your software up-to-date. Be it simple office programs, or media players, you can never be sure that your installed programs are up-to-date. I have reviewed a program called Secunia to keep your system updated, but it you are not happy with Secunia, you can continue reading this small review.
SUMo (Software Update Monitor) is a free update monitoring software from KC softwares which notifies you when updates are available for your installed softwares. Unlike many other update monitoring softwares SUMo lets you ignore any particular software if you wish to use the present version of the program for any reason. When you install the SUMo program for the very first time, SUMo scans your system for installed programs and then searches for the available updates.
Clicking on the “Check” option gives a detailed report of the available updates for all installed programs. The generated report includes the current and the latest available version of the software and the manufacture name of the program. Select any program from the list, and then click “Get Update” to view more details about the available update. You can even enable /disable beta versions if you don’t like to play with the beta versions.
You can include newly installed programs either by using “Add” option or by hitting “Scan” button. Another good feature is that SUMo lets you export a copy of the update reports that you have just obtained. Also there are many basic options like Load at startup, Allow Microsoft products and Show file path to make the update process easier than ever.

I used to used SUMO, then I found a better one: Update Star.
Get it at http://www.updatestar.com
Update Star has the ribbon toolbar found in MS Office. It constantly monitors your PC and lets you know when an update is available. You can also set it to ignore certain programs
