You might have come across this annoying problem. You have installed Vista on 40 GB partition and you have only a few programs but you are missing a lot of disk space!

Basically Vista takes around 10GB of disk space (depends) it’s a tough task to find out the directory or file which is eating most of the disk space. Though there are many tools available to get rid of this problem Disktective stands out from the group.

Disktective is a small freeware disk analyzing tool that assists you can find out the actual size of the directories and distribution of disk space. The best thing is that Disktective is a standalone program. That is, you need not to install the software to run it. Just download and copy it into any folder and double-click on Disktective.exe file to start it up.

Once you run the program, you need to select the directory to scan and fix. Depending on the size of the directory Disktective will take few seconds to minutes to analyze it. Once it completes the process it will give a complete 3D pie chart of disk usage.

In the right side pane of the Disktective window you will get the clear 3D pie chart of the disk usage. You can click on any folder on the left side pane to get the analyze chart for any particular folder. Once you find the culprit folder you can take required actions. Also Disktective allows you export the report in HTML and TreePad formats.

As the program is tiny and standalone you can even carry this on your USB flash drive. Disktective is just 450KB in size and can be downloaded from the below link.
