Microsoft Outlook, Windows Live Mail, and Mozilla Thunderbird are the popular email clients for Windows. Apart from these three, a number of good, free desktop email clients are also available. But if you are looking for a free, great-looing application to get only alerts for new emails, Mail Notifier is the perfect application for you.

Mail Notifier is a new software that alerts you when you have new emails in your inbox. A notification will be displayed when you receive a new email. The notification displays the subject of the email and also displays a few words from the body. A click on the subject of the new mail opens your inbox in the default web browser.

This free application supports multiple email accounts and uses HTTPS/SSL encrypted connections for advanced security.

By default, Mail Notifier checks for new messages every five minutes but it can changed under preferences if you want to make Mail Notifier check for new messages more often.

Mail Notifier opens your email account (when you click on new messages) in your default web browser. You can change this by navigating to Preferences > Advanced. By default, Mail Notifier also plays sound when new messages arrive. You can disable or customize the alert sound under Mail Notifier preferences.

The current version of Mail Notifier supports Gmail or Google Accounts only. That is, you can’t use this to get alerts for Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail or other services. Support for other services will be added in coming versions.

How to install and setup Mail Notifier:

Step 1: Download Mail Notifier setup from here, run the setup file and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Step 2: Once installed and running, you will see Mail Notifier icon in the notification area. Right-click on the Mail Notifier icon and select Show Mail Notifier, then click on Mail Notifier (no accounts added) button to launch Set up an account wizard.

Step 3: Here, enter a name for your mail account (for example, Gmail or My Inbox), description, and then enter the email address and password before clicking Finish button.

Step 4: From now on, whenever your email account receives a new message, you will see notification in the system tray area.

Though Mail Notifier is still in Beta stage, it works without any issues. Mail Notifier officially supports both x86 and x64 versions of Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems.

3154 unread messages?? Wow, you’ll need a lifetime to read them.

Most of them are from company PRs and other software review requests.

    @ Surendra

The current version of Mail Notifier doesn’t work for Live Mail. It works for Gmail only. I have mentioned that the article.
