Microsoft Releases Fix For MP3 Corruption Problem In Windows 7 BETA
Posted January 8, 2009 – 8:06 am in: Software Updates, Windows 7Windows 7 BETA is finally available to download for TechNet and MSDN subscribers officially. The public BETA will be available to download on Friday, January 9th.
In the mean time, many Windows 7 BETA users who have been using the leaked build have already reported that Windows 7 is corrupting MP3 files. Approximately 2-3 seconds will get shaved off the beginning of MP3s if you have set your Windows Media Player 12 settings to retrieve information from the internet and update files.
Even Microsoft has specified the problem in the TechNet Download page and has also released an update (KB961367) to fix MP3 corruption problem. But you need to have either TechNet or MSDN subscription to download the update. If the sources are to believed the update (KB961367) is already available on torrents and other file sharing sites.
However, TechNet Download page has below instructions to Windows 7 BETA users:
To protect your MP3 files
1. Before you install this Beta release, back up all MP3 files that might be accessed by the computer, including those on removable media or network shares.
2. Install the Beta release of Windows 7; download and install the Update to Windows 7 Beta (KB961367) located on this (TechNet download) page.
