Up until now, only popular security solution providers such as Kaspersky, BitDefender, and AVG were offering free rescue tools to fix infected PCs without booting into Windows. Today, Microsoft has released Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta, a recovery tool to perform an offline scan without booting into Windows.
The tool helps you remove malicious items such as rootkits and other advanced malware. This free rescue disk from Microsoft comes in handy when your antivirus software detects malicious items on your PC but fails to remove it. Besides, you can use this free tool even if the infected PC fails to boot or you can’t install or start an antivirus software on the PC.
The best thing about System Sweeper is that you don’t need to install third-party tools to burn the System Sweeper image onto a CD/DVD or to create a bootable USB drive as the tool itself comes with options to load Standalone System Sweeper bootable device.
Before you jump to download page, keep is mind that you need to download the right version of System Sweeper as both 32-bit and 64-bit are available. That is, for example, if you want to scan a 64-bit system, you need to download the 64-bit version of System Sweeper only.
How to use it:
Step 1: Download Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta from here.
Step 2: Run the tool and follow the onscreen instructions to create a bootable CD, DVD, or USB media.
Step 3: Restart your PC to launch System Sweeper tool.
Please note that this tool is not a replacement for the popular Microsoft Security Solutions or any other security software. Use Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper if only you are not able to boot an infected PC.
