If you are running Windows 7 or Vista on a notebook or netbook, here is a great application to monitor battery charge and increase battery backup. BattCursor utility not only allows you tweak battery and power profile settings, but it also displays the remaining percent of battery just below the mouse cursor.

There are more ways to customize it. It can change the window and mouse cursor when battery level goes below average or critical stage. There are tons of ways to customize the cursor color, text color and text blur along with the live preview. Apart from that, you can also customize the system tray battery icon color according to the remaining battery level.
