Computer users who are running Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, and Windows 8 Enterprise editions (see editions comparison) have a number audio and video players to chose from. But users who are using Windows 8 RT based tablets have limited options when its comes to audio and video players.
Even though Windows 8 ships with a Metro-style Video player, it’s not very powerful and doesn’t offer all the features present in legacy desktop players.
The Windows Store has been receiving new apps every day. Windows 8 users who are looking for a good Metros-style video players can now download a free player named Movies Player. Movies Player is a free player for Windows 8 and supports x86, x64, and ARM processors.
The current version of Movies Player supports many popular video formats including.avi, .mpg, .wmv, .3gp, .asf, and .mp4 formats. The best thing about Movies Player is its simple user interface. When watching a video, simply right-click anywhere on the screen to see rewind, forward, play, volume, and repeat options. Movies Player is capable of playing videos from library and other location. Of course, the player lacks many features of desktop players such as VLC, GOM, and Windows Media Player.
To open a video in Movies Player, launch the player, right-click to see Open File option. Click Open File to browse to the video location, select the video file that you wish to open and finally click Open button start playing the file.
