System properties window is a place to find everything about Windows system, from Windows edition to system hardware. You can even access device manager, remote settings, system protection, advanced system settings, action center (in Windows 7) and other features of Windows right from the system properties window.

Most of the users out there access above mentioned features such as system protection via system properties window only. So, if you want to restrict other users from using system properties in Windows Vista & 7, you can easily disable it through Windows Group Policy. Note that this tweak only removes Properties option from the My Computer or Computer icon right-click. Users can still access system properties by using Windows + Pause/Break key.

1. First, type in gpedit.msc in Start menu search box or run dialog box and hit enter to launch Windows Group Policy Editor.

2. Click Continue/Yes if you are prompted with a UAC security prompt.

3. In Group Policy Editor, Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Desktop and locate the entry named Remove Properties from the Computer icon context menu.

4. Right-click on the entry, select Edit, and then select Enabled. Click Apply and exit Group Policy editor.

5. You’ll need to reboot for the change to take effect.

Since we are restricting Windows system properties through Group Policy, you can’t apply this method in Home Basic and Premium editions.
