For many Windows 7 users, Jump Lists feature may be just another Windows 7’s feature. But if you know how to use it efficiently it will help you boot productivity dramatically. For instance, you can pin your favorite file and folders to a related Jump List to open a file or folder effortlessly right from the Taskbar.

But you can’t easily add files, folders and program to a single Jump List by default. You need to use third-party tools to make it happen. Here is one such tool that aids you in creating custom Jump Lists. And you can also use this tool in Vista and XP as the program doesn’t actually use Windows 7’s Jump List Feature.

Jumplists is a tiny program for Windows 7, Vista and also XP to access files, folders and programs quickly. The program lets you create new Jump List so that you can pin as many files & folders you want to the Jump List.

But then there is a difference between this Jump Lists utility and Windows 7’s native Jump List feature. You open Jump Lists created by this tool by left click and Windows 7’s native Jump List feature by right-click.

How to use it:

Download, extract and run the tool to start creating new Jump Lists. First add a Jump List, and then add your favorite files, folders & programs to the list. Switch to Create Shortcuts, select your Jump List and then specify an icon to the new Jump List.

Finally, create a shortcut to the Jump List and then pin it the Taskbar (In Vista & XP, add shortcut to the Quick Launch). You are done with your new Jump List. Don’t forget to use the lift click to access these Jump Lists!

We have already shown you how to downgrade from Windows 7 to Windows XP so that you can get back to your earlier Windows XP state from Windows 7.

This articles describes you how to downgrade from Windows 7 to Vista. The procedure is pretty much similar to that of downgrading to XP from Windows 7 guide.

1. Open your Windows 7 drive and make sure that you have Windows.old in the root of the drive. We use Windows.old folder to restore Windows Vista from Windows 7. So without Windows.old folder you can’t downgrade to Vista from Windows 7.

2. Next make sure that you have enough free space on your Windows 7 drive (generally “C” drive) as your need to move all the contents of Windows 7 to a folder and then need to copy Vista contents from the Windows.old folder.

Jot down your DVD drive letter and also Windows 7 installed drive letter.

3. Insert your Windows 7 installation disc in the DVD drive and reboot your PC to boot into the recovery environment.

4. In the first screen, select your language, time and currency format and keyboard input method and click Next.

5. In the Install Windows window, click Repair your computer option to launch System Recovery Options dialog-box.

6. Select your Window 7 OS and click Next.

7. Here click Command Prompt to launch the same.

8. Now type following commands one by one and hit enter after each command to move all the contents of Windows 7 to a new folder (here “C” is your Windows 7 drive letter).

C:

Md Win7

Move Windows Win7\Windows

Move "Program Files" "Win7\Program Files"

Move Users Win7\Users

Attrib –h –s –r ProgramData

Move ProgramData Win7\ProgramData

Rd "Documents and Settings"

9. In this step, you will copy the contents from Windows.old folder to the drive. Now type following commands one by one and hit enter after each command (here “C” is your Windows 7 drive letter & D is your DVD drive letter).

move /y c:\Windows.old\Windows c:\

move /y "c:\Windows.old\Program Files" c:\

move /y c:\Windows.old\ProgramData c:\

move /y c:\Windows.old\Users c:\

move /y "c:\Windows.old\Documents and Settings" c:\

10. You are almost done! It’s time to restore the boot sector of your Vista OS by entering the command given below (again, “D” is your DVD drive letter):

D:\boot\bootsect /nt60 c:

11. Finally type exit and then reboot your PC to start using your Windows Vista OS. You can now safely delete the Win7 folder in the root of your “C” drive to free up disk space. Good luck!

A handy tip to take snapshots of Start menu and context menu using the Snipping Tool present in Windows 7 and Vista.

Probably every Windows user is familiar with the Snipping Tool present in the Windows 7 and Vista. Although most users know how to take a snapshot using the Snipping tool, many of them don’t know how to take a snapshot of the Start menu or a context menu using the same tool.

Here is how to do it:

1. Right-click on the program shortcut in Start menu or Desktop and then select Properties.

3. Select Minimized, Maximized or Normal window from the drop down box, next to the Run.
