Good news to all VLC Media Player lovers. VideoLAN has just released the next major version VLC Media Player, VLC 2.0, for Windows, Mac and Linux, and is now available to download from the official page.

Faster decoding on multi-core, GPU, and mobile hardware, new rendering pipeline for video, ability to open more formats, experimental Blu-Ray support, new video outputs for Windows, Android, and iOS, support for 10bits codecs, WMV image and other codes, higher quality subtitles, new video filters, and support for new devices are the core changes in this version.

The download size of VLC 2.0 (x86) is 21 MB and can be downloaded from the link provided at the end of this article. Please note that the download page for Windows is offering only the x86 of the player. That is, VLC 2.0 x64 hasn’t been released yet for some unknown reasons.

According to VideoLAN Organization, VLC Media Player 1.1.x versions have crossed 485 million downloads.

Please note that you need to uninstall the previous version of VLC Media Player before installing VLC 2.0.

I am absolutely disappointed. How can the self acclaimed most compatible and best video player available not be able to playback iPhone videos with the correct orientation automatically? That definitely sucks.

@Techland It does play them in the correct orientation, you just don’t know how to film using an iphone, so you held the phone vertically…that was your mistake. No matter how you hold the phone, all the video is recorded lengthwise.
