After a long gap of six months, VMware updated its popular free virtualization software VMware Payer to version 4.0. With this release, VMware Player now unofficially supports Windows 8 as guest operating system. As you may know, the previous version of VMware player didn’t the support for Windows 8 Developer Preview guest OS.
The version of VMware Player also includes several new features and improvements, including 64 GB of memory support for guest OS.
Key features and improvements in version 4.0:
# Virtual machines now support up to 64 GB RAM
# USB 3.0 support for Linux guest OS
# Improved display technology to provide better experience for users with multiple monitors
# An HD Audio device is available for Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 guests.
# Supports sharing Bluetooth devices on shot with guest
You can download the latest version of VMware Player by visiting the link provided at the end of this article. It seems that existing VMware player users can’t directly upgrade to version 4.0 without uninstalling the previous version. That is, you need to remove the previous version of VMware Player to be able to install VMware Player version 4.0.Tags: VMware Player 4, Windows 8
