Volume Sqr: Powerful Volume Control For Windows

A click on the icon opens a small box which lets the user to increase or decrease of the volume level by sliding the bar. Right-click on the icon gives access to volume mixer, playback devices and recording devices settings. This default volume control in Windows is pretty good and does its job very well.
But if you are looking for a powerful volume control app you should try Volume Sqr. Volume Sqr is a free volume control software for XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems. It works as a replacement for the native Windows volume control.
The tool offers some advanced methods to control the sound volume. Users can change the volume by rotating the mouse wheel, using hotkeys, or by moving the mouse cursor to the edges of the screen. Unlike the default Windows volume mixer, it also displays the current volume level in numbers on the taskbar.
Upon installing the software, a small volume icon appears in the system tray area and will replace the default volume icon. A click on the icon lets you balance channels, control and mute the sound. To change the sound volume, simply move the mouse cursor on the volume Sqr icon in the system tray area and then scroll the mouse wheel (this behaviour can be personalized under options). Whenever the volume level is changed, a beautiful on-screen display will appear to indicate the change.
By default, the ability to control the sound volume by moving the mouse cursor to the edges of the screen is not available. To enable this functionality, open Volume Sqr Options (right-click on Volume Sqr icon in the system tray and then select Volume2), click on Screen Edges tab, and then enable Change volume when move mouse along screen’s edge option.
From now on, whenever you move the mouse cursor to the selected edge of the screen, you will see a volume control bar. Simply move the mouse cursor along edge towards the top of the screen to increase and towards the bottom of the screen to reduce the sound.
The best thing about Volume Sqr is it’s highly customizable. One can customize the volume control method, volume changing speed, on-screen display style, system tray icon, and more. Over 45 beautiful skins are available to choose from.
The Scheduler is another handy feature available in Volume Sqr. It lets you change the volume at specified time or run any other applications at a predefined time. Besides, it also allows you set hotkeys to perform various actions. You can this feature to set hotkeys to change volume, eject CD/DVD drive, change screen brightness, mute volume and reset brightness.

cheers for the heads up on this nifty piece of software, it’s very good especially for people whon done a clean install and cant get the volume display the way it was preinstalled
Tested this out recently and was a little disappointed because the program would intermittently just stop working when in mid-flow. Running latest Windows 7 on a fairly new rig. Forced to uninstall and go back to the old faithful Volumouse as a means of controlling system volume with the mouse.
