Moving applications, users accounts, files and other settings from an older version of Windows to a newer version is a tedious task especially while switching from an old PC to a new PC. Many of you may have plans to install the upcoming Windows 8 Beta on a new PC and then move all apps and settings from the current PC to the new one.

If you have plans to install Windows 8 on a new PC and would like to transfer your apps, user accounts and other settings from your old Windows 7 PC to Windows 8 PC, here is a brilliant software for you.

To help all early adopters, Laplink Software just released a new software named PC Mover Windows 8 Beta Assistant and is now available as a free download.

Windows 8 Beta Assistant

The software supports Windows 8 Developer Preview as well as forthcoming Windows 8 Beta and Windows 8 Release Candidate builds.

Windows 8 Beta Assistant helps you automatically move applications, user accounts, system settings, and files from your Windows 7 PC to Windows 8. The only catch with this software is that the source PC (your Windows 7 PC) must be running x64 version of Windows 7. In simple words, it doesn’t support 32-bit version of Windows 7. Also note that you must be running the same version of Windows 8 Beta Assistant on both source and destination PCs.

Moving apps and other settings is pretty easy. It features a set-up wizard which helps you complete the migration process without any hassles. Install Windows 8 Beta Assistant on both source and destination PCs, connect the PCs and then launch the Windows 8 Beta Assistant to begin the migration process.

The current version of the Windows 8 Beta Assistant is free and can be used to perform unlimited number of migrations till July 2012.

Please note that the setup tries to install Ask Toolbar during the installation process. If you don’t want to install the toolbar, simply click the Decline button to continue installing Windows 8 Beta Assistant without installing the Ask Toolbar.

You can download the Windows 8 Beta Assistant from this download page (Via).

Thanks for letting us know about this brilliant tool. You said that the very software for transferring the settings of Windows 7 to Windows 8 is available only for windows 7 64 bit OS. All i wanted to know is whether that when the 32 bit version will be launched. i am very much eager to have windows 8.
