YouTube, started by three former PayPal employees in 2005, has emerged as the best video hosting service. Even though there are dozens of video uploading and sharing services available today, none of them are really a match for the conquering YouTube.
YouTube8 is a free metro-style app for Windows 8 to search and watch YouTube videos within the app. The user interface of the app is simple but easy-to-use.
When you launch the app, you will see most viewed, most popular, most shared, most discussed, most responded, top rated, top favourites, trending, and recently featured videos. Click on a video tile to see video details and controls. YouTube8 doesn’t start playing the video automatically. You need to click or tap the play button to start watching the video.
The app displays video published date, author, categories in which the video is listed, rating, current view count/favourite count, number of like and dislike, and comments as well. It offers all controls that you would need to watch the video and even lets you change resolution. If the controls aren’t appearing, simply tap or click on the video. A right-click on the video shows all available resolutions.
To search YouTube for videos, press Ctrl + Q or move the mouse cursor to upper-right corner of the screen to see the charms bar, type the video name and then press enter key to see search results.
The only limitation of the app is that it can’t play video in the background. That is, as soon you switch to a desktop program or window, the app automatically pauses the video.
The another feature of YouTube8 is safe search. You can enable the feature if you don’t like to see videos that contain potentially objectionable content. To enable/disable the feature, when the app is running, open charms bar, click or tap settings and click or tap settings again to see all available options. YouTube8 is compatible with x86, x64, and ARM processors.
