Download Drive Icon Changer For Windows 7

There are two ways to change the default drive icon in Windows. The first method is manual one and requires creating an autorun.inf file in the root of drive. The second method relatively easy one as it involves using a third-party tool to quickly change the drive icon.

A lot of Windows users prefer using a software to change drive icons. Quite a few tools and hundreds of drive icons available to replace the default drive icon in Windows.

A little over a month ago, we covered how to change Windows 7 drive icon using My Drive Icon Changer tool. This time around, we have yet another simple tool to change Windows 7 drive icon in a jiffy.

Drive Icon Changer is a small tool developed by a member at Deviantart to quickly change drive icons in the latest version of Windows client. This is a standalone tool which requires no installation.

Download, extract, and run Drive Icon Changer to begin changing your drive icons. Select the drive that you wish to customize by replacing the default icon, and then click Install button to browse to icon saved on your hard drive. Note that the file must be in .ico format to use it as the drive icon. If you have an icon in other than .ico format you can use free tools such as Paint.net to convert it.

To revert to the default icon, simply select the drive letter and then click Uninstall button. Drive Icon Changer is just 260 KB and is ready to download from the link mentioned below.

We recommend you run the Drive Icon Changer as administrator by right-clicking on the file and then clicking Run as administrator to complete the operation without any errors.

And if you wish to change the drive icon without taking the help of a third-party tool, follow the given below instructions:

Step 1: Run Notepad, copy and paste the following text into the Notepad and replace the file path next to the icon with the path of the icon file that you wish to set as drive icon.

Step 2: Save the text file as Autorun with .ini (autorun.ini) extension in the root of the drive. For instance, if you wish to set  a new icon to drive D, then you need save the autorun.ini file in D:\ location.

Step 3: Restart your computer. That’s it!

Remove the autorun.ini file from the root of the drive to restore the original drive icon.
