Windows 8 ships with plenty of personalization options to change the default look of the Start screen as well as the new lock screen. Unlike its predecessors, it offers an option to change the lock screen background picture with a custom one without having to use third-party tools.
Users who need more options to customize the Start screen and lock screen have tens of free tools to choose from. About six months ago, we let you about the availability of updated Logon Screen Rotator, a free software that lets you automatically change logon screen background in Windows 7 and lock screen background picture in Windows 8. This time around, we have a similar tool with additional options to customize the lock screen in Windows 8.
Lock Screen Customizer for Windows 8 is a probably the first tool designed to fully customize the lock screen. It’s a free utility developed by WinAero, the maker of many popular tweaking and customization tools for Windows, including Start Screen Animations Tweaker, Pin to 8, and WinAeroGlass to enable the Aero glass in Windows 8.
With Lock Screen Customizer you can not only change the lock screen background picture but also rotate it at every logon. That is, you can configure the tool to automatically change the lock screen background picture every time you sign-in to your account.
Besides, you can also change the time format from the default 24 hours to 12 hours, and even change the language of date. There is also an option to change the sign-in screen background color, the screen where you enter your password. Finally, for users who don’t need a lock screen, there is an option to disable it as well. To disable the lock screen, click Logon Behaviour button and then check Disable Lock Screen option.
If you would like to automatically change the lock screen background, click Lock Screen Slideshow button, check Enable this feature, click Add folder to add folders containing your favorite pictures that you wish to see as lock screen background.
Using Lock Screen Customizer is very easy. Download the zip file of the tool, extract the zip file to get two folders named x86 and x64. Open up the x86 or x64 folder depending on the version of Windows 8 you’re running, and then double-click on LockScreenCustomizer.exe file to fire-up the program.
Please note that you might get “Windows protected your PC: Windows SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from running. Running this app might put your PC into risk.” message. Simply click More info option and then click Run anyway button to launch the program.
