Microsoft has not only dropped Windows Media Center from Windows 8 but also removed DVD playback support from Windows Media Player. Users who want to play DVD files in Windows 8 have to either purchase Windows Media Center add-on (available for Windows 8 Pro edition only) or install third-party programs.
CyberLink PowerDVD is probably one of the best, if not the best, DVD player software for several years. CyberLink has now released CyberLink PowerDVD Mobile for Windows 8 and is now available to install from Windows Store. CyberLink PowerDVD Mobile has specially been designed for Windows 8 and touch screen devices. PowerDVD Mobile not only enables you enjoy videos but also pictures and music.
The current version PowerDVD Mobile is capable of playing MPEG and MKV videos. Another cool feature of the program is that you can watch videos from Facebook and YouTube without opening your web browser.
To stream videos from Facebook and YouTube, first click on the small down arrow icon located next to the Video tab and then click YouTube or Facebook (Facebook requires you login). Next, move your use mouse cursor to the upper-right or lower-right corner of the screen to see the Charms bar, click Settings and then enter the video file name in the search box and press enter key. Click on the result to start streaming the video file.
The user interface of the app is very intuitive and easy-to-use, just like the desktop version. The app automatically lists all pictures, videos, and music files included in your libraries.
Besides, it lets you edit and add cool effects to your photos. PowerDVD Mobile also lets you create playlists for your videos, music, and photos.
PowerDVD Mobile is compatible with x86, x64 and ARM processors. Interested users can visit the Store to install the 15-day trial version or buy the full version ($14.99). If you don’t want to shell out $14.99, we recommend you install either VLC or GOM Player to watch videos.
