In Windows 10, while attempting to install or run a portable software, you might get a dialog with “The app you are trying to install isn’t a verified app from the Store. Installing apps from the Store helps protect your PC and keep running it smoothly” message.

As you can see in the picture below, the dialog offers Get apps from Store and Install anyway options. This dialog is very similar to the Windows SmartScreen warnings, and you can continue running the program/setup file by clicking Install anyway button.

The dialog generally appears when you are running a newly released software or an application from an unknown/new developer. For instance, I got this message when attempting to run a new software from GitHub.

If you don’t want to see this message again in future while installing a relatively new application, you can turn off a feature called app recommendations in Windows 10 which is responsible for warning users against installing unknown programs or programs that are not downloaded from the Store.

Here is how to turn off app recommendations to stop Windows 10 from showing “The app you are trying to install isn’t a verified app from the Store” message.

While you might find that the warning message annoying, the feature actually helps users avoid installing suspicious programs on their PCs.

Method 1 of 2

Turn off app recommendations in Windows 10

Step 1: Open the Settings app and navigate to Apps > Apps & features.

Step 2: In the Installing apps section, select Turn off app recommendations option from the drop-down box to stop Windows 10 from warning against running unknown programs.
