There is absolutely no shortage of free zip archiving tools for Windows. There are programs such as 7-Zip and Pee-Zip to easily extract all popular archive formats. But if you’re using a Windows RT powered tablet and looking for a good app to compress and extract files, WinZip is probably the best app you can install now.
While apps such as 8 Zip and Zipiloo available to create zip archives, the downside of the app is that it can create and extract only .zip files.
WinZip Computing recently released WinZip app for Windows 8 and is now available in Windows Store. Unlike the desktop version, the current version (v1.0) of WinZip app for Windows 8 lets you extract .zip and .zipx files. In simple words, use you can use the current version to create .zip and extract both .zip and .zipx files.
It lets you create encrypted .zip archive (supports AES 128 & AES 256). Just like the desktop version, WinZip app also comes with ZipSend feature, which lets you send large files using your email.
The downside of the app is that unlike the desktop version, WinZip app doesn’t support popular archive formats. This version of the app lacks many features available in the desktop version.
