20 Handy Gadgets For Your Windows 7 Desktop

As you all know, Gadgets were introduced with Vista and are present in Windows 7 as well.  Gadgets are helpful to quickly view various information right on your desktop. By default, Windows 7 offers several handy gadgets like such as Currency, Feed headlines, Weather, and Calendar out of the box.

There are thousands of free gadgets available on thew web for the latest version of Windows, but most of them are not so good. So, it’s really a tedious job to find out good, useful gadgets for your Windows 7.

A couple of months back, we covered a few gadgets pack for Windows 7, including Glass gadget pack, and 10 awesome Aero glass gadgets. While most of the gadgets in these gadget packs are gorgeous, when you install the gadget pack, the installer installs all gadgets, including the no so great ones. So, if you’re bored with the default set of Windows 7 gadgets and looking for some useful gadgets, check out the following list some useful gadgets for your Windows 7 desktop.

UPDATE: It turns out that Microsoft no longer supports desktop gadgets. In fact, it has dropped gadgets from Windows 8 operating system. At the same time, Microsoft has retired Windows Live Gallery page, the download source for all above mentioned gadgets.

Note: These are third-party gadgets. To install a gadget, download and then double-click on the gadget to see the gadget start working.

    Launch Control is very handy and useful gadgets. Must have on your desktop. It saves our time and gives all the applications or actions to perform at one place.

    the clock itself of the Alarmclock gadget does not run. It stayed 12:28 for 15 minutes. Bad thing for an alarm clock that the clock doesn’t run ! Removed this gadget as this is worthless.

    None of these work and I cant find a single website that gives useful gadgets for free. I went on a website for a free gmail gadget and guess what?! It actually makes you pay after. If anybody knows a good website for any real cool/handy gadgets please post. xxx :)

    All gadget links were working a few days back. Microsoft has decided to discontinue Windows Gadgets site and for the same reason, links are not working now. Sorry.

    Microsoft killed Windows Live Gallery, and did not provide a new site to replace it. I suspect the Windows 7 gadget API is a dying standard.

    Either way, this article is now just a list of nice gadgets that used to be available, all of which are now gone – I think you can safely remove this article, as it’s now perfectly useless, with not a single working link…

    Microsoft Gadget Gallery to “better support our newest version of Windows”….another thinly veiled effort to forced Windows 8 down our throats. Of course, after their ploy with DX 10 and Vista, I wouldn’t expect anything less. :/

    Sorry, but Microsoft no longer supports gadgets for Windows 7 and earlier versions. They realize they are unsafe and they don’t have a great deal of usability and function. This list is actually not useful anymore since there are better gadgets by 3rd parties. What’s more, most of these gadgets get in the way and even though they are quick to access certain Windows features, Microsoft has made accessing the functions rather easy in their original form, and out of the way which equals a less noisy desktop. But that’s just my opinion.
