It’s always a good idea to uninstall apps you do not use. Uninstalling unwanted apps can not only help free up disk space but also help system performance, as they might automatically start with Windows 11 and run in the background.
Windows 11 offers a couple of ways to uninstall installed apps. You can use the built-in Settings app, Control Panel, Command Prompt, and PowerShell to uninstall apps.
In this guide, we will show you how to uninstall apps through the Settings app, Control Panel, and Start menu.
Method 1 of 3
Uninstall apps through the Settings app in Windows 11
The Settings app can be used to uninstall and remove apps preinstalled with Windows 11 (not all apps can be uninstalled, though), apps installed from the Store, and classic desktop programs.
Step 1: Open the Settings app. Go to Apps > Installed apps page to see a list of all installed apps.
Step 2: Ensure that the list view is selected by clicking on its icon, as shown in the picture below.
Step 3: To uninstall an app or desktop program, click the three dots and then click Uninstall.
Step 4: When asked for confirmation, click the Uninstall button.
If you attempt to uninstall a classic desktop program, you might see the uninstaller and need to follow the on-screen directions, like clicking Next and Uninstall multiple times.
Method 2 of 3
Uninstall apps via the Control Panel in Windows 11
Note that Windows 11’s built-in apps and apps installed from the Microsoft Store cannot be uninstalled via the Control Panel. You need to use the Settings app to uninstall them.
Step 1: Type appwiz.cpl in the Start menu or taskbar search field and then hit the Enter key to open the Programs and Features applet of the Control Panel.
Step 2: Here, right-click the program that you wish to get rid of and then click the Uninstall button.
Step 3: Clicking Uninstall will bring up the program’s uninstaller. Follow the directions on the screen (varies by program to program), but mostly you need to click a few buttons like Next and Uninstall.
Method 3 of 3
Uninstall apps from the Start menu in Windows 11
Step 1: Search for the app that you would like to remove from your Windows 11 PC.
Step 2: Right-click on the app’s entry in the search result and then click the Uninstall option.
Step 3: When you are asked for confirmation, click the Uninstall button to go ahead and uninstall it immediately.
