And the best thing is Windows 8 Pro users will be able to add Windows Media Center using the Add Features option for free!

According to an article posted on Windows team blog, Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 users will qualify for upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for just $39.99 when it’s available (most probably in October this year) and offer will run through 31st Jan, 2013.

A few days back, Microsoft had also announced that users who purchase a new PC (from June 2nd to January 31, 2013) preinstalled with Windows 7 Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate edition will be able to purchase an upgrade to Windows 8 for just $14.99 (U.S).

If you are upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 8, you won’t be able to keep your applications and settings during the upgrade. You will be able to bring along only personal files. And if you are coming from Vista to Windows 8, you will be able to keep your Windows settings and personal files.

Windows 8 Release Preview users won’t get any upgrade promotion offer but will have option to migrate your personal files during the upgrade process.

However, people upgrading from Windows 8 Release Preview with underlying license for XP, Vista, or Windows 7 qualify for the upgrade offer. So, even if you have done a clean install of Windows 8 Release Preview by formatting your XP, Vista or Windows 7 partition, you can use your genuine license of previous versions of Windows (XP, Vista, or Windows 7) to get the offer.
