Last Updated on May 26, 2020 by admin 2 Comments

There is absolutely no shortage of good Modern UI-style YouTube apps for Windows 10/8. While Google is yet to release the official YouTube app for the newest iteration of Windows, a bunch of decent apps are available to search and watch YouTube videos on Windows 1o and 8 without having to open the web browser.

Apps like YouTube8 (free) sports an easy-to-use interface and comes with decent set of features and options, users who have used the official YouTube app on smartphones will find that these third-party apps have a couple of shortcomings.

The good news is that Windows 10 and Windows 8 users no longer need to search the Store for a quality YouTube app as MetroTube, the most downloaded and very popular YouTube app in the Windows Phone world, has come to Windows 10/8.

Yes, the developer behind MetroTube has released the app for Windows 10/8 and is now available in the official Windows 10/8 Store. MetroTube app for Windows Phone isn’t only popular for its interface also for the sheer number of features that it offers.

Users who’re using other apps to watch videos on Windows 10/8 will immediately notice the impressive interface of MetroTube that goes well with Modern UI.

One of the best things about this app is that it lets you login to your YouTube account so that you can access and add new videos to watch later list, favourites, and also access videos uploaded by you.

Key features:

  • Stream videos in 360p, 720, and 1080p
  • Search YouTube
  • Access watch later and favorites list
  • Log-in to your account
  • Live tile support
  • Leave comments and replay to comments

The home screen of the app displays watch later, favorites, uploads, and recently played options on the left-side of the screen and shows thumbnails of popular videos on the right-side. Scroll to the extreme-right of the screen to see categories and also add a new category by clicking or tapping the plus button.

Clicking or tapping a category shows the popular videos in the selected category.

With default settings, High (360p) is selected as the preferred streaming quality and one can change it to HD (720p) or Full HD (1080p) under Options. MetroTube Options can be accessed by clicking or tapping the Settings on the Charms bar (move the mouse pointer to the upper or lower-right corner to reveal the Charms bar or slide from the right-edge on a touchscreen) and then clicking or tapping Options in the Settings charm.

You can also change the preferred quality of a video, by right-clicking anywhere on the MetroTube interface and then clicking or tapping Quality button. You can also add a currently streaming video to watch later or favorites list by right-clicking on it and then clicking or tapping Watch later or Favorite icon.

While streaming a video, MetroTube displays total number of views, likes and dislikes, published date, account name of the uploader, and also comments. The other worth mentioning feature is that you leave comment or replay to a comment right-from MetroTube.

Overall, it’s one of the best, if not the best, YouTube apps available for Windows 10 as well as Windows 8.1. Visit the Store link to install the app.

Interesting looking App. I wish I had more time to test Windows 8.

Is your computer set to use the “South Asian numbering system”? I was wondering why the comma-separation looks different in the view count for your screenshots.
