More often than not, like most PC users out there, I also use the built-in tool in Windows to create a compressed (zipped) folder. The built-in tool is useful for small files and folders, especially if you don’t want to create password-protected zip files.
As you know, one can easily create a zipped or compressed folder in Windows 10 and previous versions by right-clicking on a file, clicking Send to option, and then clicking Compressed (zipped) folder. The Compressed (zipped) folder option appears whenever you right-click on a file or folder and then click Send to menu.
The other day, while trying to create a new zipped folder, I noticed that the Compressed (zipped) folder was missing from the Send to menu on my Windows 10 PC. Luckily, I knew how to restore the missing Compressed (zipped) folder option to the Send to menu, and didn’t have to search the web for solutions.
Add Compressed (zipped) folder to Send to menu in Windows 10
If the Compressed (zipped) folder is missing from the Send to menu of Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, or Windows 7, you can try out one of the following solutions to restore the Compressed (zipped) folder option back to the Send to the menu with ease.
Method 1 of 2
This is the easiest way to quickly add a Compressed (zipped) folder shortcut back to the Send to menu in Windows 10.
Step 1: Simultaneously press Windows and R keys to open the Run command box. In the Run command box, type the following command and then press Enter key.
%systemdrive%\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo
Step 2: Copy Compressed (Zipped) folder.
Step 3: Open Run command box again using Windows + R hotkey
Step 4: Type, Shell:sendto, and then press Enter key to open the Send to folder.
Step 5: Paste the previously coped Compressed (Zipped) folder. That’s it!
Method 2 of 2
If the above method didn’t work, you can manually download the Compressed (zipped) folder shortcut and then place it in the Send to folder. Here is how to make it happen.
Step 1: Click here to download the Compressed folder.zip file. Extract the zip file to get Compressed (zipped) folder shortcut.
Step 2: Open Run command box by simultaneously pressing Windows and R keys, type Shell:sendto in the field, and then press Enter key to open the Send to folder.
Step 3: Move the newly downloaded Compressed (zipped) folder shortcut to the Send to folder. That’s it!
The Compressed (zipped) folder shortcut should now appear in the Send to menu.
