How To Pin Quick Access To The Taskbar In Windows 10

Quick Access is a new feature introduced with Windows 10 to help you quickly access frequently opened folders and most recently opened files. The Quick Access, by default, displays up to ten frequent folders and up to twenty files.

We have seen users asking if it’s possible to pin Quick Access to the taskbar in Windows 10. Yes, you can easily pin Quick Access to the taskbar, but for that to work, you need to configure the File Explorer open to Quick Access instead of This PC.

Pinning Quick Access to the Start menu and taskbar is extremely easy. Here is how to do that.

Step 1: Open File Explorer.

Step 2: In the left-pane or navigation pane, right-click on the Quick Access entry and then click Pin to Start option to pin Quick Access to the Start menu in Windows 10.

As previously pointed out, pinning Quick Access to the taskbar is possible, but you need to configure the File Explorer open to Quick Access instead of This PC. You can access This PC from Quick Access or by adding This PC icon to the desktop.

Step 1: Start File Explorer. You should now see File Explorer icon on the taskbar.

Step 2: Right-click on the File Explorer icon in the taskbar and then click Pin to taskbar option.

Step 3: Next, in the File Explorer, click the File menu and then click Options/Change folder and search options.

You should now see Folder Options dialog on your screen.

Step 4: Under the General tab, make sure that Quick Access is selected for Open File Explorer to option. Click Apply button.

You can now click the File Explorer icon on the taskbar to open Quick Access. To access This PC, in the Quick Access, click This PC icon.

To change the icon on the taskbar icon, right-click on the icon, right-click on File Explorer entry (see picture below), click Properties, click Change icon, type %SystemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll in the field, and then select the Quick Access icon. Click Apply. You may need to log out and then log in to see the new icon.

Create Quick Access shortcut on Windows 10 desktop

You can easily create Quick Access shortcut on your Windows 10 desktop by simply dragging and dropping Quick Access from the File Explorer to the desktop area. Note that it’s no possible to pin this Quick Access to the taskbar in Windows 10 by dragging and dropping the shortcut to the taskbar area.

    So, the answer is: No. You cannot pin Quick access to the Windows 10 Task Bar.
