5 Ways To Go To Desktop In Windows 11

Last Updated on May 8, 2025 by admin Leave a Comment

While working on a Windows 11 PC, we often need to access the desktop to access files and apps. While we can minimize apps one after another to see the desktop, Windows 11 offers multiple options to quickly go to the desktop.

The following are the five easy ways to go to the desktop in Windows 11.

Method 1 of 5

Go to the Desktop via the Power User Menu in Windows 11

Most Windows 11 users are unaware of this method, although this is one of the quickest ways to access the desktop.

Step 1: Right-click the Start/Windows logo icon on the taskbar to open the Power User menu.

Step 2: Click the Desktop option to hide all open apps and File Explorer windows to see the desktop.

You may right-click the Start/Windows logo button and then click Desktop again to restore open apps and File Explorer windows.

Method 2 of 5

Use keyboard shortcuts to quickly see the desktop in Windows 11

Step 1: Simultaneously press the Windows logo and D keys to minimize all apps and windows to go to the desktop.

Pressing the Windows logo + D keys again will restore open apps and windows.

NOTE: The lesser-known Windows logo + M keyboard shortcut also minimizes all apps and windows to take you to the desktop.

Method 3 of 5

Use the mouse to quickly go to the desktop in Windows 11

If you prefer using mouse over keyboard shortcuts, the Windows 11 taskbar offers a hidden option to quickly see the taskbar.

All you need to do is move the mouse cursor to the extreme right of the taskbar to see a small hidden button (called Show desktop) and then perform a click on it to see the desktop.

Click the Show desktop button again to restore all open apps and windows.

Another way to open the desktop from the taskbar in Windows 11

Step 1: Right-click the File Explorer icon on the taskbar and then click the Desktop option to open the Desktop folder in the File Explorer.

As you know, the Desktop folder shows all files and app shortcuts on the desktop.

Method 5 of 5

Use trackpad gestures to show the desktop in Windows 11

Windows 11 offers multiple touchpad gestures to get things done quickly.

Step 1: Place three fingers on the trackpad and bring them down until you see the desktop.
