A significant number of Windows 11 users use either Outlook Classic (the older version) or Outlook New (installed by default in recent versions of Windows 11) as their email client.
If you also need to open Outlook often, you may want to create a shortcut to it on your Windows 11 desktop so that you can access it quickly.
Whether you are using Outlook New or Outlook Classic (old), this guide shows you how to create an Outlook shortcut icon on your Windows 11 desktop for quick and easy access.
Create Outlook New app shortcut on Windows 11 desktop
If you are using Outlook Classic, scroll down the page to see directions. This method does not work for Outlook Classic.
Step 1: Launch the Outlook New app from search.
Step 2: Once the Outlook New app is open, right-click on its icon in the taskbar to see the jump list (right-click menu).
Step 3: Now, hold down the Shift key and then right-click the Outlook entry in the menu (jump list).
Step 4: Click the Create shortcut option.
Step 5: When you get the following ‘Windows cannot create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?’ message, click the Yes button to create the Outlook New shortcut icon on the Windows 11 desktop. That’s it!
You may now double-click the newly created Outlook New icon on the desktop to launch it.
Create Outlook Classic (old) shortcut icon on Windows 11 desktop
The procedure to add Outlook Classic’s icon to the Windows 11 desktop is quite similar to the one we used for creating the Outlook New shortcut icon on the desktop.
Step 1: Open Outlook Classic using search or any other method.
Step 2: Right-click the Outlook icon on the taskbar to see the jump list (right-click menu).
Step 3: Hold down the Shift key and then right-click the Outlook (classic) entry in the jump list to see another menu.
Step 4: Here, click Send to and then click the Desktop (create shortcut) option to create an Outlook Classic shortcut on your Windows 11 desktop. That’s it!
Another way to create Outlook Classic shortcut on Windows 11 desktop
Step 1: Type ‘Outlook’ in the Start menu or taskbar search field to see the Outlook Classic entry in the search results.
Step 2: Right-click the Outlook Classic entry and then click Open file location.
Step 3: In the resulting folder, look for the Outlook Classic entry. Right-click the entry, click Show more options, click Send to, and then click the Desktop (create shortcut) option to create an Outlook Classic shortcut on the Windows 11 desktop.
In addition to these methods, one can also use the Create New Shortcut wizard to add an Outlook Classic shortcut to the desktop.
