How To Remove AI Actions From Windows 11 Context Menu

Last Updated on January 21, 2026 by admin Leave a Comment

Microsoft has added several AI features to various inbox apps in Windows 11 over the past two or three years. For instance, the Paint app can now remove the background from a picture, the Photos app can erase the picture background, or simply blur the background.

To make it easier to access these AI features right from File Explorer, Windows 11 now shows “AI actions” when you right-click a supported file format, which in turn displays all available AI actions for the selected file type. For instance, when you right-click an image file and click AI actions, it shows Visual search with Bing, Blur background with Photos, Erase objects with Photos, and Remove background with Paint. You may click the option or action to open the respective app and perform the action.

Many users do not use all the AI actions or AI features. They might want to remove the actions that they do not use. For instance, I never use the Erase objects with the Paint action, and I like to remove them.

Windows 11 offers an easy option to remove AI actions that you do not want to see in the context menu. The built-in Settings app offers options to turn off AI actions that you do not like to see. Here is how.

Remove an AI action from the File Explorer context menu in Windows 11

Step 1: Open the Windows 11 Settings app using search or Windows logo + I keyboard shortcut.

Step 2: On the left pane of the Settings app, click Apps.

Step 3: Now, on the right side, click Actions.

Step 4: Here, turn off the toggle button next to an app’s entry whose AI actions you do not like to see in the context menu. For instance, if you do not like to see AI actions for the Photos app, you need to turn off the toggle button for the Photos app.

Please note that Windows 11 does not offer an option to remove individual AI actions of an app. When you turn off, all AI actions offered by the app are removed from the context menu.
