The taskbar/Start menu search in Windows 11 helps you search for files and installed apps. When you search via the taskbar or Start menu, it also shows web and Microsoft Store results. For instance, if you search for an app that isn’t installed on your PC but is available in the Microsoft Store, the search result shows the Microsoft Store entry so that you can quickly jump to the Store page of the app and install it.
Many users don’t like seeing web results in search results for various reasons. If you are also someone who does not want Windows 11 to search the web and the Microsoft Store when you type a query in the Start menu or taskbar search, you now have an option to turn off the web and Microsoft Store results in the Start/taskbar search.
The latest version of Windows 11 offers an option to turn off results from the Microsoft Store and the internet in the Start/taskbar search results.
Complete the directions below to turn off web and Microsoft Store results in the Windows 11 Start/taskbar search.
Do not show web results in Start menu/taskbar search on Windows 11 PC
Step 1: Open the Windows 11 Settings app using search or any other method mentioned in our 11 ways to open Windows 11 Settings app guide.
Step 2: On the left pane, click Privacy & security.
Step 3: Now, on the right side, click on the Search card (under the Windows permissions section).
Step 4: Here, click Show suggested search results to see available options. If the Show suggested search results option does not appear, update your Windows 11 installation to the latest version and try again.
Step 5: Turn off both Microsoft Store and Web Searches to stop showing results from the Store and web, respectively, in your Start menu or taskbar search. If you prefer to turn off only the results from the web, turn off the Web Searches option only.
