How To Prevent Programs From Waking Your Windows 7 Machine

As with other shutdown commands, putting your PC into Sleep mode into is often simple and straightforward. Open the Start menu and click Shutdown button to put your PC into Sleep mode.

Sometimes, though, Windows 7 might refuse to enter the Sleep mode or wake up from Sleep mode unexpectedly without your intervention. If your PC doesn’t enter the Sleep mode or wakes up unexpectedly, it could be because of a input device (keyboard/mice) or a software.

We have already covered how to prevent keyboard and mouse from waking up your Windows 7 computer. If you’re having the issue even after going through the above guide, it could be because of a third-party software. While Windows prevents applications from waking system from sleep state by default, a program might have altered this rule and stopping Windows from entering Sleep mode or waking it.

How To Prevent Programs From Waking Your Windows 7 Machine

While it’s possible to find out what program is causing the problem, it requires opening Command Prompt and executing some commands and isn’t an easy job for many users. If you suspect that a program is behind this issue, follow the below mentioned instructions to fix the issue.

Step 1: Open Power Options. To do this, type Power Options in Start menu search area and hit enter. Alternatively, go to Start menu, click Control Panel, click System and Security, and then click Power Options.

Step 2: On the select a power plan window, click Change plan settings for the plan that you want to change.

Step 3: Here, click Change advanced power settings option to launch Power Options dialog-box. Here, expand Sleep, expand Allow wake timers, and then select Disable for both On battery and Plugged in options. Click Apply button to save the change.

Step 4: Close the Power Options dialog. You are done! This should prevent programs from waking up your PC unexpectedly.
