Microsoft has been introducing AI-powered features to Windows 11. Features like Windows Recall, Click To Do, Auto Super Resolution, improved Windows search, super resolution in the Photos app, and AI Settings have been added to Windows 11 over the past few months.
Although not everyone is pleased with all these AI-powered features, some of them are handy. For instance, the super resolution feature available in the Photos app lets you enhance and enlarge low-resolution photos, which can be a very helpful feature for most users.
How do I install AI components on my Windows 11 PC?
Many users have reached out to us asking why these AI features are not available on their computers despite being on the latest version of Windows 11. They have also claimed that the Windows 11 Settings > System > AI Components page does not display any AI components and displays a “There are no AI components currently installed” message instead.
If your Windows 11 PC is also showing the “There are no AI components currently installed” message despite running the latest version of Windows 11, it’s because your PC does not support these AI components or AI features.
As per Microsoft, AI components are installed and available only on PCs that support these features. That is, these features are made available only on Copilot+ PCs.
If you do not know, Copilot+ PCs are nothing but PCs that include an NPU to perform AI tasks. Yes, PCs that officially support Windows 11 might not have NPUs. In fact, only select PCs that were shipped in the last few months have NPUs.
Is there a workaround to install AI components on non-Copilot+ PCs?
As of now, there are no workarounds to install AI components on regular PCs without NPUs.
Can I install an NPU on my existing computer?
No, you cannot install an NPU on an existing computer.
What AI features are available on PCs that do not have NPUs?
There are a few AI features that can be used even on Copilot+ PCs. Features like the Copilot app, image creator, generative erase, and background removal in the Paint app are available on all computers.
