How To Change Page Background Color In Word 2016/2013

Just like majority of webmasters out there, most of the times I use the popular Windows Live Writer software to compose articles for Into Windows. At times, when I need a change, I use Microsoft Office Word 2013 to write articles and I love the newly added typing animation.

Change page background color in Microsoft Office Word 2013 and 2010

I use Word program to compose articles especially during night times as I can easily change the default white background of the page to a color that is easy on my eyes.

If you’re also using Office Word 2010, Word 2013, or Word 2016, you can easily change the default background color of page in a few steps. Simply follow the given below instructions to change page color in Word 2010 and Word 2013.

Change page background color in Word 2013/2016

Step 1: Launch Word 2013 program.

Step 2: Navigate to Design tab first and then click on Page Color box located located upper right corner of the window to select an available color and set it as background color for your current page. To select a custom color, click More Colors option.

Tip: If you prefer using keyboard shortcuts to quickly change the page background color, simultaneously press Alt + E keys first to switch to the Design tab and then simultaneously press P and C keys to navigate to Page Color. Once you are there, use arrow keys to select a color.

Change page background color in Word 2010

Step 1: Open Word 2010.

Step 2: Click on Page Layout tab and then click Page Color to select a color for the current page background.

As you might have observed, the option to change the page color is located under Page Layout tab in 2010, whereas it’s located under Design in Word 2013.

Tip: You can quickly change the page background using keyboard shortcuts. When you are using Word 2010, press Alt + P to switch to the Page Layout tab, and then use P and C keys to navigate to Page Color.

Please note that Word saves the selected page color for your current document only. That is, if you open a new document, Word will open the document with the default white background. Word also allows set a picture as page background. We will talk about it in another article.

    Emjay, go to Office options (file menu > Options). Select dark gray or gray as Office theme.

    Not the document colour, but the background behind the document. It’s too white and hurt the eyes.

    I was wondering how to change the default page colour so as not to have to do it every time.
